Video Transcript:
As a business owner it's important to be aware of all of the different marketing platforms available and iBeacon marketing seems to be moving along at quite a pace now.
What is iBeacon marketing?
I remember being told some years ago that my mobile phone was now more powerful than many computers and the iBeacon technology is just another example of that.
iBeacon is an app that can be downloaded to your iphone and be used by retail shops and other business owners to push out offers, vouchers, coupons and other incentives to passing owners of iphone if they have the app installed.
The technology is driven by Bluetooth so is easy to use and increases the level of micro-location awareness.
Now as a business owner when technology continues to move forward and come up with new ideas you have to be aware of the marketing opportunities it brings to your business.
If you are located in a shopping centre you will be able to target people in store as well as iphone users in the near vacinity with the right offers or information to generate more sales or increase the value of each sale because they are already in your shop or just outside.
As business owners we are all aware of the power of mobile marketing and you only have to take a look at how you use your own phone to know that someone receiving a message on their phone whilst in store or just outside are more likely to see and respond to your marketing message than trying to read your in store marketing messages.
Message to a mobile phone are more personal and therefore an offer for action takers whilst on your premises is more likely to get conversions.
Apple are using this technology to map the inside of buildings and are ahead of Google at this time.
For those of us who have been in business long enough we can all remember when Google introduced the world to Google Maps. Google Maps identified every business and put their location on the map and later, after you claimed your listing on the map, you were able to use your listing to fully promote your local goods or services.
Those local business owners that did now benefit from page one listings on local search as Google is fully behind it's local business search engine.
Now with iBeacon you take that one stage further with micro-location awareness. In the future consumers will not only know the location of the shopping centre but will also be targeted with various offers as the near the different brands operating within the shopping centre.
I want you to consider how powerful this is. You are not advertising or marketing to get people to your premises to make a buying decision, they are already within walking distance of your place of business.
In America major players such as Walmart and Duane Reade have already started testing the technology as they can already see the positive benefits on their business.
Keep an eye on the development of this technology as it may a very powerful marketing channel for the right business owners.
