Replace Shimano Disc Brake Pads
Bicycle Hydraulic disc brake pad replacement instructions. Removal and installation shown for Shimano braking system. The hardest part to changing your brake pads may be getting the correct replacement pads for your brakes. Look on the brake caliper for a Shimano model number. Then go to the Shimano website and download the parts diagram for your model. The parts diagram will show compatible brake pads, though it may not show newly available pads. For newer model number pads, go to Shimano and find their parts compatibility page. You can also check on the brake pad box to see if your braking system is compatible with the parts.
After you've changed out the brake pads, don't forget to bed in the new pads. Bedding in the brakes removes the glaze on the new pads and evenly transfers some of the brake material onto the rotor. When you do this, it will give you the best braking performance. See the end of the video for a chart on how to bed in different braking situations.
