How to plant Sweet Potato.
In todays video we are showing 2 types of planting models for Sweet Potato. The big difference essentially is in the method of Land Preparation.
Step 1 Land Preparation
Individual Hill Method (No Basal fertilization, just individual hills and ensure that moisture content of the soil is high)
-Plot Method with Plastic Mulch (heavy procedures are done upfront basal fertilization of organic matter only)
-Spraying with Trichoderma is a must to ensure good soil response
Step 2. Collection / Selection of Planting Materials
Ensure to get vines that have at least 8 nodes in them or 8 leaves
Step 3. Planting
12 - 16 inches apart in Individual Hill Model
-12 inches in the Plot with Mulch Model
Step 4. Irrigation
Water 2-3 times a week. Increase / reduce frequncy depending on the moisture level of the soil or if rain is already quite regular
Note: Fertilization is done 1 to 1.5 months after planting. Early application of 14-14-14 might result in the vines just getting longer without forming any tubers.
Check after 90 days. If you don't wish to harvest for what ever reason (low market price, etc) then tubers will just continue to grow. You just need to check to see if there already cracks forming.
