Compression Crash Course: 🥵
Go into the plugin around -3 to -6db, then set a ratio (I prefer lower ratios like 2:1 because they come out more transparent, and then stacking compressors). I usually set the threshold to aim for about 5-7db of gain reduction on the first compressor. I adjust the attack so that it’s fast but not so fast that it’s completely tucking the consonant. Then I set the release to be quick so that it amplifies the tails of each syllable, but not so quick that it’s jarring. Afterwards make sure that you’re gain-matching so that it’s the same volume coming out of the compressor as it is coming in.
