MURDERED: Judith Therianos
In 2016, Judith Therianos, a 52-year-old woman from Alfred, Maine, was found dead in a wooded area in New Port Richey, Florida, after being last seen at a liquor store. Timothy Frederick Johnson, a 25-year-old man she met there, was convicted of her murder. This case highlights a tragic interaction that ended in violence and loss, marking a stark reminder of the unpredictability of human interactions.
Judith had come to Florida in February 2016, planning to visit friends and care for a sick relative. She found herself taking on various side jobs to make ends meet, all while battling an alcohol problem. Her life took a turn on March 13, 2016, when she decided to stop by a liquor store in New Port Richey, a coastal town northwest of Tampa. It was there she crossed paths with Timothy, a man who had only been out of jail for 23 days following an arrest for a break-in.
Their casual conversation at the liquor store led to an agreement to have consensual sex in a nearby wooded area, as captured by the store's surveillance cameras. However, the encounter took a dark turn when Judith asked Timothy to stop, and he responded by choking her until she passed out. After she was unconscious, Timothy assaulted her further, ultimately leading to her death. He then went on to steal Judith's debit card to buy himself a meal at a Waffle House, showing a chilling disregard for the life he had just taken.
After returning to the scene of the crime, Timothy engaged in further acts of desecration before attempting to erase any evidence by dousing Judith's body with rubbing alcohol. He then left her in the woods, where her remains would not be discovered until April 7, 2016, by a woman looking for cans.
In the meantime, Timothy had been incarcerated again for violating his probation. It was during this time that he began to boast about his actions, telling other inmates and even a friend over the phone about the murder. These confessions eventually reached the detectives working on Judith's case. Together with the surveillance footage from the liquor store, these admissions provided the evidence needed to arrest Timothy for Judith's murder.
Timothy Frederick Johnson's history of criminal activity and the compelling evidence against him led to his conviction of first-degree murder in October 2017. He was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole, now residing at the Union Correctional Institution in Raiford, Florida.
