ESLOC G solution is a high-level disinfectant and sterilant used for surgical instruments, particularly those that are heat-sensitive. Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to use this solution safely and effectively:
Materials Needed:
ESLOC G solution
Sterile water or distilled water
Personal protective equipment (PPE): gloves, goggles, and apron
Clean and dry container or tray with a lid (large enough to hold the instruments and submerge them completely)
Forceps (for handling instruments)
Step-by-Step Guide:
1. Preparation:
Ensure Adequate Ventilation: Work in a well-ventilated area or use a fume hood, as glutaraldehyde has strong fumes.
Wear PPE: Gloves, goggles, and an apron are essential to protect yourself from exposure.
Clean Instruments: Before disinfection or sterilization, thoroughly clean the surgical instruments to remove all visible organic matter (blood, tissue, etc.) using soap and water. Rinse and dry them completely.
2. Prepare the Solution::
Activate the Solution: Activate ESLOC-G by adding the complete bottle of ACTIVATOR provided with every bottle of ESLOC-G, and shaking it to mix.
3. Disinfection Process:
Submerge the Instruments: Using forceps, carefully place the cleaned instruments into the glutaraldehyde solution, ensuring they are fully submerged. Avoid overcrowding the container.
Set the Timer: For high-level disinfection, instruments typically need to remain in the solution for 20-30 minutes. For sterilization, they may need to be submerged for up to 10 hours.
Cover the Container: Use a lid to minimize evaporation and fumes during the process.
4. Post-Disinfection:
Remove the Instruments: After the appropriate time, use forceps to remove the instruments from the solution.
Rinse Thoroughly: Rinse the instruments thoroughly with sterile water or distilled water to remove any residual glutaraldehyde. Multiple rinses may be necessary.
Dry the Instruments: Place the instruments on a sterile surface and allow them to air dry completely.
5. Storage:
Sterile Storage: Store the sterilized SURGICAL instruments in a sterile container or wrapping until they are ready for use.
Dispose of Used Solution: Follow your facility’s protocols and local regulations for the safe disposal of used glutaraldehyde solution.
Safety Precautions:
Always follow the safety guidelines as mentioned in the preparation.
Handle ESLOC G with care; it is toxic and can cause skin irritation, respiratory problems, and eye damage.
Use within the specified timeframe for effectiveness. ESLOC G solutions often have a limited use life of 14 days once activated
Important Notes:
Instruments that are heavily soiled or not properly cleaned before disinfection may not be fully sterilized.
Regularly monitor the concentration of the glutaraldehyde solution if used for repeated disinfection cycles, as its efficacy may decrease over time.
By following these steps, you can ensure that your surgical instruments are properly disinfected and sterilized with ESLOC G solution.
