Trazodone in Animals
Hello NAVE crew, how are you?
Trazodone has been widely used in pets in recent years. This is usually in cases of anxiety, phobias, changes in environment and travel, or during festive periods that involve fireworks. This has even become commonplace in veterinary clinics, sometimes understood as a safe medication with no unwanted effects. But is this really true? Furthermore, especially for us, is trazodone useful in veterinary anesthesiology?
In this video, we will not focus on the tranquilizing effect, because it does indeed reduce stress in animals, especially dogs. However, the objective is to draw attention to possible unwanted effects from using this medication. Thus, we will discuss serotonin syndrome, hypotension, and other effects.
