Johnny Carson Does Stand-Up
Early video examples of comedian Johnny Carson’s stand-up act are rare. The talent that Johnny developed seems to appear instantly and effortlessly every time he starts to tell a joke. Certainly, his work on early game shows such as “To Tell the Truth” and “Who do You Trust” have been well preserved. His early resume is replete with jobs that used his skills as a host to bring out the most in guests. But, examples of Carson doing pure stand-up are few. This clip from the Chevy show hosted by Dinah Shore is from January 31, 1960, when NBC had its eyes on the young comic, and was just starting to understand the talent they had in hand.
