Itinerary:
Day 1
Heli from Kathmandu to Lukla
Trek from Lukla to Phakding
7.7km, 2h15m
Easy, flat descent from 2800m to 2600m.
Day 2
Phakding to Namche Bazar
12.2km, 4h45m
Easy first 2 hours to the first checkpoint & lunch, then steeper last 400m altitude gain to Namche. Actual vertical ascent throughout the day of 1153m, but true altitude gain of 800m from 2600m to 3400m.
Day 3
Acclimatisation day/loop from Namche to Everest View Hotel and Khumjung Village
7.6km, 2h40m
Great acclimatisation day with ~500m altitude gain throughout the trek, visiting beautiful places and getting ready for the next few days of trekking.
Day 4
Namche Bazar to Tengboche
10.1km, 3h16m
Easy first 2 hours of -200m descent, then mid steepness ascent from 3250m to 3850m. Short, fast hike. Actual vertical ascent ~600m, but true altitude gain of 410m from 3440m to 3850m.
Day 5
Tengboche to Dingboche
10.1km, 2h55m
Very pleasant trek, no steep spots, just a consistent uphill ascent in a beautiful valley. Actual vertical ascent 667m, but true altitude gain of ~500m from 3850m to 4350m.
Day 6
Acclimatisation hike canceled due to heavy rain and snow. Rested in Dingboche.
Day 7
Dingboche to Lobuche
8.82km, 4h38m
Fairly long pilgrimage, especially in very deep snow. Beautiful trek, and the first time you get close to 5000m. Actual vertical ascent ~650m from 4350m to 4960m.
Day 8
Lobuche to Gorakshep
4.92km, 2h35m
Gorakshep to Kala Patthar
2.38km, 3h17m
Kala Patthar to Gorakshep
2.07km, 59m
The highlight of the trip. One heck of a day in knee-deep snow and phenomenal blue-bird weather. Beautiful trek with Nuptse on your right, and stunning white peaks all around you. Actual vertical ascent of 356m from 4960m to 5187m on your way to Gorakshep, and then an additional 468m from 5187m to 5642m up to Kala Patthar. The toughest hike of the trip by far, with significantly harder conditions than most other people will experience. You should make it a lot faster than us, if without snow and/or with a clearly marked trail.
Day 9
Heli back to Kathmandu
