For You
: : : : : : : :
Today I found a way for you
to hold onto what you thought you knew
before the world changed, took your heart away,
made you wanna' forget how you used to be

And they took you from your mother's arms
and swore to you that they meant no harm
just closed your eyes and said, "Goodnight,"
--and told you what they wanted you to see

"Try and stay alive," is all that they could say to me
headin' out to sea where Captain Jack wants his Pearl back
while colors all explode above the graves of men too proud to die
in thick, fragmented light, they shine a universe of Space and Time

- - - - - - -

And you say it makes you feel ashamed
to think of all the games you've played
the conquerer and the quiet maid
with feelings that you couldn't name

And they asked you if your heart is true
and if you could be what you wanted to
What a funny thought! What a thing to do!
to make you think that you've got a right to choose

"And never have I lied," suggestive as a sacrifice
sittin' like a stone, or breakin' there before the throne
Take it all to heart -- no better time to make a start
Try and make amends -- the jester has come back again

"Gone to live for good," soundin' from the neighborhood
Suitcase on the track, oil on the house of wood
"'Mornin' to ya', friend!" -- the face could be your next of kin
No stranger anymore! -- an open heart behind an open door

But it's not somethin' you have to do
just a way to live, a kind of truth,
to hold your hand until the end
as you come into another land

And it's not somethin' you have to speak
or a promise that you have to keep
Just a sign of peace on a busy street,
that crosses under weary feet,
where souls return and lovers meet,
in the face of God playin' hide-and-seek,
as a child cries, "Now I am complete!"
and leads you to eternity

- - - - - - -

Still the mockers laugh with scorn -- where days before they called Him Lord
Standin' on the side -- soundin' out a stolen word
But the Holy Veil was torn -- and He cried, "My God! What have I done?!"
Starin' at the end -- where Space and Time begin again
