Introducing Glen R. Brown, 2024 NCECA Conference Presenter, Ceramics and Time

How do perceptions of time link a pre-classic terracotta figurine from the Valley of Mexico, a 15th-century Vietnamese bowl used for generations in the Japanese tea ceremony, and a 2010 Rimas VisGirda cup? Answers lie in the dyads of history and tradition, the collective and the personal, preservation and revival.

Glen R. Brown is a professor of art history at Kansas State University. He has written about historical and contemporary ceramics for more than 25 years. His latest book is Jun Kaneko: The Space Between, Zurich: Scheidegger & Speiss, 2021.
