"They promised to put us somewhere safe, like building dugouts or guarding something. They promised a payout of 500,000 rubles, but they only paid 100,000. So they sent us to points, told us we'd be digging in, like, for a couple of days. In short, they even screwed us over. We got there and were told we were moving on, to storm the place. So, they kept driving us there, all 200, 300 of us along the way. I finally ran over to the forestry camp, and someone from the side asked me, 'Who's hanging around here?' I said, '433rd Regiment.' They said, 'We're our own!' I asked, 'Who are you?' They kept silent, and then they came up from the side with machine guns. I surrendered, raised my hands."
Kovarny, Sergei Sergeevich, born January 27, 2001. Kolpashevo, Tomsk Region, 27th Division, 433rd Regiment, 1st Battalion, 1st Assault Company.
"I wasn't interested in any of this at all. Only from what my brother told me—he watched the news every day and said we were basically like Nazis. I told him how things are here, and he said, 'You're an idiot,' 'Why are you going?' But here, if you refuse a combat mission, they can simply shoot you—and that's it. We've had cases like that. The commander's call sign, 'Kazakh,' he personally reset!"
