How to Attach an Elastic IP to an EC2 Instance
In this AWS Rails tutorial we are going to walk through How to Attach an Elastic IP to an EC2 instance.
Before we get started I am going to explain what an Elastic IP address is, why you may want to use one, finally the costs associated. Use the link in the timestamps and skip ahead to the "getting started" section.
What is an Elastic IP?
An Elastic IP address is a static IPv4 address associated with your AWS account. You can map the address to instances within your account.
Why use an Elastic IP?
Used to mask a failure. Elastic IPs also creates additional flexibility in your infrastructure.
How much will this Cost?
One really nice thing to note, you elastic IP probably wont cost you anything. As long as you Elastic IP is mapped to a running instance, you pay nothing. You can remap this IP up to 100 times per month at zero cost. So odds are you will never pay for an Elastic IP.
