Here are my suggestions to help you avoid some of the biggest mistakes business owners make and hopefully enable you to stay ahead of the curve.

ONE: The first biggest mistake is not having a strategic plan. Having a clear vision of what you want before you begin, is key. Know where you're going. Map in your mind how exactly you are going to get there. Use this yardstick to benchmark against all your future business decisions.

TWO: The second biggest mistake is not implementing an effective recruitment method. Recruiting the right people to support your long-term success is of vital importance. Avoid “quick fix” adverts in the local newspaper with the hope that you get lucky.

Start from scratch by creating dynamic and exciting adverts that speak to the candidates you want to attract. Be creative and write from the point of view of “what’s in it for me”. Inject your personality and avoid weak and bland ‘recruitment’ speak. By using the right method will help you guarantee find real, high-quality candidates.

THREE: The 3 rd biggest mistake is not having a marketing plan Marketing is crucial to your success but do you know which areas of marketing are working for you?

Start to track your ads, measure their performance. Once you know which ads are, and aren’t, effective you can fine tune your focus and save, and hopefully make many financial gains.

FOUR: The 4 th biggest mistake is poor time management. Many of the business owners I work with come to me exhausted and discouraged. “There’s not enough time in a day” or “I'm running around like a headless chicken,”

If that sounds familiar, then this is one area that you need to address. Try a quick 10 minute time study - you’ll be surprised how many days you’ll free up! It could also reveal gaps in your staff recruitment needs.

FIVE: The 5th biggest mistake is not delegating work.

Here's a question for you: What would you say is the most important part of delegation? Handing out the job is critical of course, but the real answer might surprise you: It's follow-up.

That's because making sure the tasks actually get done is the heart and soul of delegation...and the place where most people fall short.

I hope the suggestions and ideas I’ve outlined have been helpful. Even the smallest improvement in any of the above areas can mean growth in your profits and cash flow.

You've got to act and MAKE IT HAPPEN NOW!
