In todays episode, i venture to the allotment in the Welsh valleys in South wales. Where an exciting day has finally arrived! My dream polytunnel is finally being built. First Tunnels have arrived and are building a huge 20ft x 12ft polytunnel with double sliding doors and side ventilation on both sides. I opted for the side rails to ensure I had somewhere to fit guttering. A storm was due so the team at polytunnels installations who built it, arrived a daily early to start the build. I show you how to build a polytunnel like the pros! However, in my opinion, I'd get the team at polytunnel installations to come fit it. What a job they did, in such a short amount of time!

The storm battered the team all day, non stop. However no disasters occurred. They continued until completion and what a job they did! I love it!

After the team left I wasn't letting the mud bath stop me, while that will take about a week to dry I continued to work in and outside of the polytunnel.

'How to fit guttering to a polytunnel'

First show you how I fitted the guttering to the polytunnel. The polytunnel came with a timber side rail so it wasn't as difficult as imagined. I sourced some guttering and fitments from a salvage yard and added a line of silicone to the edge of the guttering. Screwed it directly on, creating a seal. I then added another bead of silicone on top to seal it further. Connecting a downpipe with fittings into an inc tank to ensure I save a 1000 litres of water to last me until spring.

Afterwards I show you how to add staging to a polytunnel using roofing batons.

The polytunnel was just too muddy to work in so I added a path from some old paving slabs to ease the pressure a little. I then brought in a raised bed. I'm going to create 2 or 3 no dig raised beds in the tunnel under the removable staging.

I will show you show to grow undercover in autumn and winter this year.

I'm debating showing you how to install a solar powered irrigation system until spring. Due to the fact it may freeze over winter.

Thank you again to First Tunnels and the team for creating a beautiful growing space for the Growup channel.
