A child raised in the spirit of Turkey’s Village Institutes… a teaching journey that began without even taking the promotion exam… and a teacher who rebuilt an entire village school from the ground up with one belief: “One wish is not enough.”
The story of Dilek Livaneli is not only a personal success story—it is a living example of how education can transform an entire community.
While working as a village teacher in Turkey, she renovated an entire school from A to Z, taught women how to read and write, introduced children to the concept of a “museum classroom,” and created a new environment filled with hope. Today, Dilek Livaneli teaches at one of London’s most prestigious schools, yet she continues to return to her village every month to keep the “Bir Dilek Yetmez” movement alive.
She became the first and only Turkish teacher to be selected among the world’s Top 50 finalists for the Global Teacher Prize—recognized globally as the “Nobel of Education.” This was followed by the European Parliament’s International Leadership Woman Award, a speech at the United Nations, the She Inspires UK Lifetime Achievement Award, and being named “Atatürk Woman of the Year” in the United States.
All of these achievements reflect a journey that began in a small village school and has now echoed across the world.
This documentary interview tells the story of a Turkish teacher—from a village to London—her resilience, her social impact, and the educational ecosystem she built around her belief that:
“One wish is not enough; a life can change.”
