Photonics optical fiber sensor demonstration
Photonic for border surveillance: a fiber optic sensor cable buried 1 meter under earth can detect people walking (and distinguish humans from animals) in real time. The same technology can be used to detect leakage/intrusion in oil and gas pipelines. A single fiber cable can monitor up to 80 kilometers, then you add another module and so on… I was impressed how sensitive it is, and how photonics enables new solutions! Photonics is everywhere!!
