1hp Solar Aerator Fountain (Air-O-Lator Carnival) Installed in Australian Pond
G'day. In this video I show a 1hp Air-O-Lator Carnival Aerating Fountain installation we did for a residential pond in Victoria, Australia. As you can see the surface algae/weed is already in retreat and we just installed the unit. Air-O-Lator equipment is really high quality (USA made). The 1hp Carnival aerator can run off 3 x 300W panels. Unlike many fountains that claim to be aerators, this fountain is a genuine aerating fountain. What makes it a legitimate aerator is the motor runs a propeller, not an impellor. The difference is a propeller is a type of fan that propels water by pushing against it—converting rotational force into a linear motion—whereas an impeller is a type of rotor that creates a sucking force—drawing water into the engine.The big difference is the sheer amount of water a propeller chucks out compared to an impeller. It's like comparing a pool pump with the outboard motor on a boat. The pool pump is an impeller, the outboard motor is a propeller. You can imagine the difference in volume of water being pumped out if they were operating side by side. Aeration comes down to wave action on the surface of the water, so you really need to agitate the surface to get good aeration. This unit does that really well for ponds and small dams.
