Lucky escape for a pair of Large Red Damselfly in my wildlife pond.
My video is about a pair of Large Red Damselfly which were observed mating in my wildlife pond. You can see the male has clasped the female by her neck. The shape that this creates is called a mating wheel. The pair flew together over the water and eggs and started to laid on suitable plant which were just below the water surface.
However, a Smooth Newt sees the female damselfly who has her abdomen in the water and moves towards her and then........
Filmed in my pond which has many pond plants and is in my urban wildlife garden.
