Carbon Void Jade is an artwork by English artist Tom Price. His artistic practice focuses on materials, driven by innovative and experimental processes. Price views himself as collaborating with materials and phenomena, resulting in artworks that reflect this mutual interaction.
One of Price’s preferred mediums is coal, which he appreciates for its aesthetic qualities, particularly its darkness and opacity, as well as its significance as a pure form of carbon, essential for life and a vital energy source. Through experimentation, he has mastered this medium, producing a diverse range of artworks.
In the Carbon Voids series, Price combines geometric shapes to explore the relationship between humans and their objects. By creating both positive (solid) and negative (void) forms, these artworks can be perceived as functional containers or purely sculptural pieces, allowing the viewer to determine their purpose.
