Root IV is a painting by Dutch contemporary artist Joachim van der Vlugt, part of his Roots series, where he explores the theme of trees—both their visible trunks and hidden roots. In these works, the roots extend underground, merging with van der Vlugt’s signature geometric forms to evoke a mysterious, dreamlike world.
Balancing abstraction and figuration, van der Vlugt creates depth and structure through his masterful use of light, reminiscent of classic Dutch painters. His restrained palette of darks, whites, browns, beiges, and blues, applied in layered strokes, lends his work a unique, captivating sense of altered reality.
