How to Span Your Golf Ball When it's Interfering for Another Player
I love getting questions from the ladies in our FB Group. This one is from Sara about how to move a ball when it is interfering with another player's shot. Here's what you need to know:
-If your ball at rest interferes with another player's shot (on the putting green or anywhere else on the course) the other player may ask you to lift your ball.
-When you are required to replace your ball on the original spot you must first put a marker down right next to the ball.
-If the player asked you to move the marker so that it's out of their way, you will do what is known as "spanning the ball".
-In this video I demonstrate how to span the ball. In order to ensure you are using the same angle when you move it and replace it, you should look at a fixed object in the distance, and use that to line yourself up. (Oh, and if the course is near the water and you see a boat in the distance, don't do what I did once and use a boat as a fixed object - because that little sailboat will probably move!)
-Sara's question was if it mattered if you use the ball marker or the ball (or both) is okay. I highly recommend that you use either the ball or the ball marker on the ground to move and then replace because it can get confusing and even putting the ball back just one ball width away from the original spot would be considered "playing from the wrong place" and earn you a two stroke penalty.
