After the second stage, Chara and Sans both start to lose strength, and Chara can only choose to hit one of the seven Sans. The other Sans will teleport away to find support (however, in fact, Sans cannot teleport away from [Sorrowful Abyss] by themselves, it is G that teleports them). The Sans who are hit will not die immediately, but they do not have enough strength to teleport, and will stay to continue the battle for the purpose of delaying time.
