Walt Disney brought Grim Natwick onto the project because he had experience animating more realistic human characters. With Marc Davis as an assistant and by integrating the reference footage and some of the concepts of Ham Luske, Snow White over time became a sympathetic character that audiences could connect to emotionally. This is critical for the success of any Disney film, as the ones with lead characters who didn’t have this quality usually didn’t do well in the box office (like Pinocchio, Alice in Wonderland, and Sleeping Beauty).

Depsite the talent and influence of Milt Kahl, the prince was extremely hard to animate (and make masculine and believable) so that’s why most of his scenes were removed from the film.

There were also color explorations done for Snow White’s dress to make it different shades of yellow/orange instead of blue and yellow. Color was a big concern because Technicolor was a relatively new technology at the time, and there was a genuine concern that the bright colors of animation would be too strong for audience’s eyes 🙈
