Making a Matrix Sequencer in Ableton and How to Use It

You've probably seen me do this on streams, but it's one of my favourite music theory hacks - setting up Ableton to behave like a Matrix Sequencer (thing Tenori-on or Bliptronic or Monome or Circuit or Push ... ).

An online one I like is http://tones.fm

The key trick here is building up your scale and then moving it out of the loop area - Ableton still counts the notes when deciding what to "fold" but you'll never hear them. And then you can just drop dots onto the grid until you wind up with something interesting.

The Operator patch I used was just a sine wave (So the default patch) with a longer release (about 1 second). It'd sound even better with some delay and reverb on it!
