Here's a $5 HDMI to VGA + 3.5mm Audio DAC that performs much better than expected. In fact, as long as you can feed it an "HDMI Limited Range" signal, it performs similar to much more expensive Digital To Analog Converters. The MiSTer FPGA project, RePlayOS and Kodi all have that option and this is fully compatible with all three, including the weird resolutions and refresh rates we often use. Also, just a reminder that if you're using this as a MiSTer Direct Video solution, you'll need to make the following changes to the .ini file:
vga_mode=rgb
composite_sync=1
hdmi_limited=2
direct_video=0
...and if you're using this with the Laser Bear MiSTer YPbPr adapter, the above settings are all the same, except vga_mode=ypbpr
