One of the updates in the VPIphotonics Design Suite v11.5 is the ability to model multicore fiber transmissions with the new FiberMCF_MM Module. The FiberMCF_MM module is designed to simulate signal propagation in weakly coupled single-mode multicore fibers (MCFs). These advanced fibers enhance the capacity of optical links, making them ideal for both short-reach and long-haul transmission systems utilizing Space Division Multiplexing (SDM) technology.

The module accurately models various detrimental effects, including loss, chromatic dispersion, polarization mode dispersion, and Kerr nonlinearity. It replicates the effects in parameters in both the physical and numerical intracore categories, such as crosstalk and fiber skew, and intercore effects, such as distributed power coupling, in standard FiberMM models. Explore how the various fiber parameters and deployment conditions affect the characteristics of optical links with the FiberMCF_MM module.
