In this new episode of UPsalute, we discuss dysphagia with Professor Renato Salvador, Associate Professor of General Surgery at the University of Padua, and the General Surgery Unit at the University Hospital of Padua (https://www.discog.unipd.it/renato-sa....
What is dysphagia?
Dysphagia is a medical term for difficulty swallowing, meaning that the act of swallowing requires more time and effort. This condition can occur at any age, but is more common in older adults.
Sometimes, difficulty swallowing occurs after eating too quickly or if food is not chewed thoroughly. However, persistent swallowing problems may be a sign of a more serious condition.
Although dysphagia can be attributed to various causes, one of the most common is chronic acid reflux caused by gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). This is a common digestive disorder characterized by chronic acid reflux, which occurs when stomach acid flows back into the esophagus.
Let's learn more about this condition in this educational content created with Prof. Salvador. Enjoy!
