This video addresses the environmental and health impacts of consuming top predators from the ocean, like tuna, salmon, and shrimp, and emphasizes the importance of diversifying our seafood choices towards more sustainable options like sardines, mackerel, and catfish. It underscores the ecological imbalance caused by targeting these apex species and advocates for a dietary shift towards lower trophic levels to promote ocean health and sustainability.

Alison Barratt, from the Monterey Bay Aquarium Seafood Watch program, suggests the importance of eating fish lower in the food chain. Instead, she explains, Americans eat salmon, tuna and shrimp more (by far) than any other fish which impacts fish populations, native habitats and personal health. For alternative fish species to eat, she recommends eating more sardines, tilapia and catfish as examples of fish that can be more sustainably harvested and generally healthy to eat.
