When you're reading a script you may see directions like CU, MC and WS but what does that all mean?

CU stands for "close up". That's going to be a headshot where you're only focusing on the person who is talking or a close up on a product.

MS stands for "medium shot". A medium shot is used most often. That's where you're recording someone from the waist up.

WS stands for "wide shot". A wide shot is used a lot in the beginning of videos as an establishing shot. A wide shot would be seeing the entire person, shoes and all.

ECU stands for extreme close up. This mat be used for creative shots on an eye, or a macro shot of a bee on a flower.

When you're planning your videos it's important to know what type of shots you want you so can plan to capture them. Using these acronyms will help you save time and save space on paper.
