Automated Refunds is a new premium refund tool in the Refunds and Exchanges product suite. Automated Refunds uses the airline filed Category 33 Voluntary Refund rules to calculate the refund and apply the appropriate penalties. Airlines that are filing their rules through Category 33 must agree to participate in the product. If no Voluntary Refunds rules are filed or the airline does not participate then the transaction will fail and must be completed using existing refund tools.
The purpose of Automated Refunds is to fully automate the refund process in order to accurately and consistently calculate the value of the refund and apply the appropriate fees as filed by the airline. Automated Refunds will provide the highest level of automation, and the results are included in the Sabre
Fare Guarantee Policy.
Using a new entry, the process will retrieve the ticket to be refunded, check the voluntary refund rules, and calculate the refund due. When the refund is completed, the PNR (when present) will be updated, a refund PQR is created, and the coupon status is changed to RFND. If no PNR is present when completing the refund, a shell PNR will be created by the system for the purpose of updating the ticket record information and creating a refund accounting line (when active). In all cases, a copy of the refund PQR will be added to the ticket database so that it remains active for the
entire life of the ticket even if the PNR is purge.
