RIGHT or RIGHTS? English pronunciation training through listening with minimal pairs
Many English learners have difficulty with the consonants and consonant clusters that can end English words. Such endings are not possible in many languages.
This activity is intended to help you hear some of these consonant clusters that can end English words more clearly.
This video has many examples of the English minimal pair words 'right' (/ɹaɪt/) and 'rights ' (/ɹaɪts/). The only difference in the pronunciation of these words is the ending consonant.
Listen to each word and decide if you are hearing the word 'right', which ends with (/t/) , or 'rights', which ends with (/ts/). Pause the video if you need more time. The word will then play again and you will see the correct answer. See how many you can get right!
