Shimon Maudi, 69, an agriculturalist, was one of the founders of Moshav Yated in 1981, following the peace treaty with Egypt. Shimon, who raises flowers for export, was also cultivating the next generation of farmers on Yated. On October 7, Shimon and his wife, Tami, lost their son Noi, son-in-law Motti and grandson Matan.
They had gone to visit a friend at the Nova party. When Hamas attacked, they escaped in their car, but were murdered in an encounter with terrorists at the Mivtahim junction. Another son-in-law, Tomer, managed to survive.
"I try every day to rehabilitate what existed here and to continue forward," Shimon says.
