When it comes to understanding our instinctive reaction to fear and threat, you may have heard of the fight or flight response. But did you know there are several common ways people respond to threat? Did you know that those threat responses activate and shut down parts of the brain, making certain activities impossible? And did you know that you can trigger these threat responses in people even when you think you are being supportive and friendly?

The threat response isn't just important if you're living in a cave in the paleolithic era – it has real implications in modern business and team formation. And if it's not addressed and supported, it can lead to underperformance, behavioural conflicts and can even prevent people from being able to utilise their higher brain functions to collaborate, innovate, or be creative.

Recognising and supporting the threat response can be the difference between creating a high performing team and culture or significantly wasting time, money, and energy in constantly attempting to address continual behaviour and performance problems.
