Palisades Fire Rages While Fire Hydrants Go Dry!
California is out of water to fight the Palisades fire.
The LA Times is reporting that “scores of fire hydrants in the Pacific Palisades had little to no water flowing out.”
The Los Angeles Scanner posted on Twitter that there was “pretty much no water in the Palisades right now.”
LA mayoral candidate Rick Caruso spoke with Fox 11 and said the same thing:
By 3am Wednesday all fire hydrants in the Palisades area “went dry,” according to Janisse Quinones, chief executive and chief engineer of the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power, the city’s utility.
She says increased need for water was too much, saying “We had a tremendous demand on our system in the Palisades. We pushed the system to the extreme. Four times the normal demand was seen for 15 hours straight, which lowered our water pressure.”
Although Governor Nesom says that “all hands are on deck to the fight the Palisades Fire,” residents aren’t buying the excuses or platitudes. A growing number of residents are are placing blame on the Department of Water and Power as well as Governor Newsom.
L.A. City Councilmember Traci Park isn’t satisfied with the response either and is making her concerns known. Shesaid this in a press conference today.
“The chronic under-investment in the city of Los Angeles in our public infrastructure and our public safety partners was evident and on full display over the last 24 hours. I am extremely concerned about this. I’m already working with my team to take a closer look at this, and I think we’ve got more questions than answers at this point.”
Fox 11 reported that the reservoir had not been properly filled before the wildfires.
Independent California journalist Anthony Cabassa also posted on Twitter that, "Multiple sources confirming what was reported, there is NO WATER or resources to fight the fires. What happened? This is a complete failure despite warnings to @MayorOfLA. Karen Bass that these winds would potentially bring unprecedented fires into LA County today - Friday."
