Robert Fathauer
Dr. Fathauer's math-art explorations began with tessellations and then branched into fractals. Around 1990 he began creating art primarily on the computer in order to better realize the intricate detail and complexity of his designs. His fractal tessellations led him to experimenting with fractal knots, and he is also interested in mirrors, illusion, and perception. He has combined his love for hiking in the desert with his art by exploring and photographing slot canyons and by incorporating desert plant forms in many of his fractal tree prints. For the last two years, he has been experimenting with combining fractals and biological forms in three dimensions, both on the computer and by sculpting in clay.
