Patrick Slade of Stanford University presents a short hands-on tutorial aimed at getting individuals started with estimating energy expenditure from inertial measurement units (IMUs). While the example focuses on lower-limb movement with IMUs worn on the shank and the thigh of one leg, this approach could capture upper-limb movement with additional sensors worn on the appropriate limb. Dr. Slade guides attendees through ideal sensor placement; how to format, load, and pre-process the data; segment the data into cycles of activity; and generate estimates of energy expenditure.
This webinar is offered jointly with the Restore Center (https://restore.stanford.edu/), an NIH-funded Medical Rehabilitation Research Resource Network Center at Stanford University.
