3 balls t-shirt yarn (from 3 t shirts)
Cotton/acrylic blend (fine/sports weight)
12mm 100cm needles
Crochet hook (any size)
Yarn needle
Stitch marker
Scrap yarn (180cm)
Scissor
1 Straight needle

k = knit
sts = stitches
k2tog = knit 2 together decrease
ssl = slip slip knit decrease
m1r = make 1 right increase
m1l = make 1 left increase
bo = bind off

Garter stitch - This bag is knit in garter stitch. When knitting flat, garter stitch is knit by knitting every row. When knitting in the round, garter stitch is knit by alternating knit rounds and purl rounds. Throughout the pattern we will knit garter stitch both flat and in the round.
Decrease rounds - There are 3 decrease rounds in the body of the bag. Always on a knit round, each time decreasing 2 stitches. The decreases are made in the centre of each side. The decreases give the bag a triangular shape.

1. Cast on 21sts using provisional cast on method
2. Knit 2 rows holding t-shirt yarn and cotton/acrylic yarn together (leave a 15cm tail)
3. K1, k2tog, knit to end of row
4. Knit until work measures 8cm (approx. 4 rows) and tail and working yarn are on opposite ends
5. Pick up the provisional cast on stitches (20sts) with other needle
6. Pull out scrap yarn
7. Pick up 3sts with right needle
8. Knit 20sts
9. Pick up 3sts with right needle (total 46sts on needles)
10. Place stitch marker.
11. Start knitting in the round. First round is a purl round.
12. Continue in garter stitch until bag measures 8cm (approx. 5 rounds)
13. Decrease round 1: k9, k2tog, k21, k2tog, k12 (total 44sts on needles)
14. Continue in garter stitch until bag measures 14cm (approx. 5 rounds)
15. Decrease round 2: k8, k2tog, k20, k2tog, k12 (total 42sts on needles)
16. Continue in garter stitch until bag measures 20cm (approx. 5 rounds)
17. Decrease round 3: k8, k2tog, k19, k2tog, k11 (total 40sts on needles)
18. Purl 1 round

19. Bind-off round: k3, bo11, k9, bo11, k6
20. Remove stitch marker, k3 (there are 18sts on the needles [9sts each side])
21. Transfer 9sts to straight needle (from the side without working yarn). The strap is worked flat in garter stitch by knitting every row.
22. Knit 2 rows
23. Decrease row: k1, ssk, k3, k2tog, k1 (total 7sts on needle)
24. Knit in garter stitch until strap is desired length or approx. 1m of yarn remains (my strap is 48cm)
25. On a row when the inside of the strap is facing you. Increase row: k1, m1r, k5, m1l, k1 (total 9sts on needle)
26. Cut yarn leaving a 40cm tail, using a yarn needle, join the 2 edges with kitchener stitch
27. Tie a knot and weave in both ends
