This tutorial shows how to use a texture image as a bump map. The tutorial uses an image of wood planks to make a 3D wood surface.

Bump maps are usually black and white images, UV mapped to a model. When the scene is rendered the light and dark pixels are used to make bumps in the surface of the model.

The bump node processes the height of the bumps from the image. To use the bump node, the material has to be made using nodes. A color image can be inputted into the node, it is automatically converted into shades of gray.

The bump node is part of the Cycles render system but it is supported by blend4web and can be used for materials rendered in a web browser.

Note that the blend4web manual states that Cycles node support is an experimental feature and not yet recommended.
