This tutorial shows how to set up reflections in a 3D web scene using Blender and Blend4web.

With the demands of real time rendering, Blend4web gives object level control over being reflective and reflexible. Reflectivity must also be turned on in material properties.

In render properties there is also a quality setting for reflections, which by default is set to medium.

A reflective object reflects what is in front of it including the sky, a sky is set up to illustrate this.

When an object is set to Reflective, a field appears for the Reflective Plane. The assumption might be that for a plane, the plane itself would be the plane of reflection and by default it is. For increased flexibility an empty is added to the scene to specify the plane of reflection.

When an empty specifies a plane, the z axis is the normal to the plane, the x and y axis lie on the plane.

In the tutorial the empty’s location is set to be different to the plane and the reflections locations change.

The tutorial also demonstrates the Fresnel effect and rotating the plane of reflection.
