Deposits can stick to the flush valve opening and prevent the flapper from sealing. Step 2: check the flapper chain. The chain should be as close to vertical as possible and have minimal slack. Step 3: place a couple drops of food coloring in your toilet tank. Wait 15 mins and check your toilet bowl. If the bowl water changed color, you have a leaky flapper and it’s time for a replacement.
