👨🔧 This tutorial shows how to repair the Mercedes A-Class W169 / C169 and B-Class W245 instrument cluster when the display fades, goes dim or unreadable, loses pixels or is hard to read in daylight or heat. The fault is confined to the LCD screen: the rest of the instrument cluster keeps working, only the readability of the information is lost.
There's no need to replace the whole cluster, but the faulty screen only, keeping the car's original cluster and its mileage. The dim display is replaced with the Minitools SEPDISP08-7V LCD (monochrome, 64x164 pixel), which clips into its dedicated connector. This tutorial also shows how to set the display voltage and contrast by modifying the cluster EEPROM, so the LCD works whether your cluster is the 7V or 8V type: you measure the voltage and adjust the EEPROM parameters accordingly.
