This video is a mise-en-scène from Ruslana's upcoming show “Wild Heart.” With this clip, Ruslana illustrates an episode from her future one-artist show.
The video is dedicated to a new story about the iron beat. Ruslana was inspired by the legends of the kharakternyks. 'Kharakternytstvo' – mystical practices of the Sich Cossacks, shrouded in legends that speak of the superhuman abilities of our ancestors:
the Cossack-kharakternyk is a mythical figure who could single-handedly oppose an entire army.
A 'kharakternyk' could put an enemy army to sleep and give his own Cossacks the strength to endure days without food and rest while traversing the desolate steppe and engaging in battle.
Kharakternyks knew how to negotiate with stone and make metal speak.
The battle cry of Cossack iron – sabres, chains, and other tools – instilled fear in their enemies.
And although it is believed that there were no women among the kharakternyks, this is not entirely true. During the times of Kyivan Rus, women kharakternyks were called "polyanytsia." It is known that in the guard of the Grand Prince of Kyiv, Sviatoslav the Brave, these mysterious women-amazons, kharakternyks-polyanytsia, served as bodyguards. In martial arts, they were in no way inferior to men, yet they possessed many skills that were inaccessible to the ordinary warriors of ancient Rus.
