After fragmentation of a calcium oxalate dihydrate stone in the lower pole of the left kidney, the fragments are repositioned with a tipless nitinol basket to the upper pole.
Further stone treatment — either more fragmentation into pieces that can be removed with the basket or dusting into very small fragments that can be left for spontaneous expulsion — is technically easier in the upper pole.
