It has been revealed through the research of various scholars, including Professor Masayoshi Mizuno, that a large number of immigrant groups from the Korean Peninsula resided in the ancient Omi region. This time, based on archaeological sites located in the Shiga-gun area of Shiga Prefecture—which can be examined from multiple perspectives such as burial customs, settlements, and documentary sources—I have considered the reality of these immigrant groups by examining three questions: why the residence of 'immigrants' in Otsu was assumed, when and where they came from, and where and how they lived. As a result, we concluded that the immigrant groups of the Shiga district were stationed in the Omi region around the late 5th to early 6th centuries at the behest of the Yamato regime, and that such stationings occurred multiple times thereafter; that the Baekje region was one of the leading candidates for their original homeland; and that these individual groups, while incorporating social stratification, were integrated into a new clan group known as the Shiga Hanjin.
