Testing a 1:1 current balun - thinking out loud…..

I bought an HFKit to build a 1:1 current balun. The kit quality is excellent, and happily built it. But when I tested it by measuring SWR with a known good 50Ohm load, I was surprised to see the strong rise across HF from 1:1 to 4:1.

Frustrated, I stripped the toroid and wound a classic Guanella current balun, only to see the same shape of SWR curve.

Rethinking my testing, I realise the real measure of effectiveness is how the currents balance at the output, not reflected power into a test load (SWR).

Here, I explore the outputs and think the results are good and reasonable.

UPDATE: I noticed my 25Ohm load resistors were slightly different values (25.1 and 25.2 ohms). This would account for the different voltages measured, if currents were indeed the same.
