this is how purity culture shaped me - from a man's perspective. This is a video that I've been wanting to make for some time now, and for good reason. For years, I was the epitome of toxic masculinity and it has taken me years of therapy to connect the dots between the toxic traits of my life and the shame that I internalized as a young boy being raised in purity culture.
In this video, I briefly discuss how sex and sexuality was never discussed in the church and therefore it was never discussed in my home. How the lack of sex education only amplified the shame that I was already feeling. How the shame that was internalized manifested into Retroactive OCD Jealousy.
And lastly, how you can begin to work through your own shame that you might have internalized if you grew up in purity culture.
