Etna - The Alcantara Gorges (documentary)
The Alcantara is one of Sicily's main rivers and has a close relationship with the volcano, as its bed flows over prehistoric lava flows, which have given it unique characteristics.
In this documentary, we'll discover how the spectacular columnar basalts were formed by visiting the Larderia Gorges, better known as the Alcantara Gorges, one of Sicily's most spectacular sites, located within the Alcantara Valley, against the splendid backdrop of the Peloritani Mountains. We'll also explore the formation and legends of the area, with a visit to nearby Monte Moio, the only pyroclastic cone of the Etna complex located in the province of Messina.
Filming took place during the summer of 2015.
