Its unique design language, a modern reinterpretation of classic Volvo styling cues, Scandinavian design incorporating natural materials, and the advanced IntelliSafe safety system, which exemplifies Volvo's leadership in safety, all embody the human-centric philosophy of Swedish luxury.
The XC90 has been used as a state vehicle for celebrities such as Pope Benedict XVI, Prince Carl Philip of Sweden, and golfing legend Tiger Woods, further solidifying its brand value.
The exterior design epitomizes the simple, yet functional, essence of "Swedish luxury." This model, embodying the Scandinavian design code of practical simplicity, maximizes the Nordic design tradition of emphasizing humaneness and functionality, and presents it in a more sophisticated and modern way than previous models.
The T-shaped headlamps and the vertical grille with the new Iron Mark are iconic Volvo design features. The full-LED headlamps, nicknamed "Thor's Hammer" from Norse mythology, complete the XC90's powerful front end.
The XC90 comes standard with the TMAP infotainment service, developed jointly with T Map Mobility by Volvo Cars Korea for the Korean market with a two-year, KRW 30 billion investment.
Users can use their voice to access a variety of functions, including ▲TMAP navigation ▲calls and text messages ▲FLO music search ▲air conditioning control ▲information search ▲NUGU smart home control.
Tmap Infotainment Service 2.0 has been updated for models starting in 2024. Based on the next-generation Cooperative-Intelligent Transportation System (C-ITS), it provides advanced information, such as real-time traffic light information and 3D maps, for more convenient and safe driving.
Furthermore, features such as "Personalized Routine," which allows users to configure and launch multiple services, such as destination setting and music playback, with a single voice command, and "Daily Briefing," which provides information about the date and personal schedule, provide optimized connectivity tailored to each driver's lifestyle.
The interior features horizontal visual lines that emphasize a spacious and elegant interior. The dashboard and center console are finished in natural Linear Walnut, creating an elegant and luxurious environment, defined by a "Scandinavian expression."
The ergonomic seats feature different heights for the first and second rows, ensuring an unobstructed view forward for all passengers and a more comfortable ride. The front and rear seats can be adjusted up to 120mm to ensure ample legroom. The XC90's seats are upholstered in premium Nappa leather, and the front driver and front passenger seats feature massage and ventilation functions.
The vehicle is equipped with an Advanced Air Cleaner (AAC) system, which uses a PM 2.5 sensor and a particulate filter to purify ultrafine dust entering the cabin and detect fine dust concentrations. The interior materials are allergy-free, helping prevent contact allergies and asthma.
When it comes to audio, Volvo is synonymous with the brand. The car also features an audio sound system developed in collaboration with Bowers & Wilkins, a high-end British speaker company. Replacing the yellow Kevlar cones used for the midrange, the new Continuum cones perfectly replicate mechanical resonance, delivering richer, more detailed sound to all seats. A "Jazz Club Mode," inspired by the Nefertiti Jazz Club in Gothenburg, and noise cancellation are also included.
Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV): Completing Volvo's electrification strategy alongside the pure electric vehicle, the Plug-in Hybrid consists of three series-connected battery modules, increasing the battery capacity from 11.6 kWh to 18.8 kWh, and a total of 102 high-voltage battery cells. Furthermore, a long-range battery featuring a rear electric motor delivers approximately 65% more rear-wheel power. This allows for a purely electric range of up to 53 km on a single charge, an approximately 80% increase over the previous model.
Notably, the XC90 PHEV's e-motor, which delivers a 50 hp increase over the existing plug-in hybrid T8 model, boasts a maximum output of 462 hp (engine: 317 hp, electric motor: 145 hp, PS standard), a maximum torque of 72.3 kg∙m, and a 0-100 km/h time of 5.3 seconds, boasting the most powerful performance in the brand's history.
