How To Draw A Dragon Eye

This time I revisit an old idea of a dragons eye. I am using a wacom intuos 4 (old model) and photoshop. The image starts with a loose sketch. This then gets refined with consideration given to the light direction and the overall contrast. I wanted the image to be dark, but with a suggestion of scales. About half way through I used a 'cheap' effect in an attempt to add noise to the image. This sort-of worked, but it would have been just as easy and probably quicker to render the scales using a hard edged brush! The colour was getting too green and a quick 'variations' adjustment helped me pull it back towards the blues. The end results were OK. but as artists we are never happy with the results, right?
